The Evolution of the Butterfly

Renowned cellular biologist, Dr. Bruce Lipton narrates the process of a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly over a milieu of imagery in "The Evolution of the Butterfly". The film combines first hand footage from the Occupy Wall Street movement with stylized portraits of the recent economic collapse and gives a backdrop of hope to sometimes bleak reality.

The JOBS Act Is A Fraud-Enhancing Gift To Wall Street Criminals

By William K. Black, Henry N. Pontell, Gilbert Geis, Janet Tavakoli, Barry Ritholtz & Lynn A. Stout
As white-collar criminologists (and a former financial regulator and enforcement head) and experts in ferreting out sophisticated financial frauds, our careers and research focus on financial fraud by the world’s most elite private sector criminals and their political cronies. Therefore, we write to thank Congress and the President for preparing to adopt a JOBS Act that will provide us with job security for life.

Greedy Bastards Antidote: Lawrence Lessig on “One Way Forward”

In a discussion on money, politics, and the growth of organic political reform movements in America over the last few years, Dylan Ratigan talks with Lawrence Lessig about his new book, One Way Forward: An Outsiders Guide to Fixing the Republic.

You can read Lessig's book here.

Obama’s Lobbying Ban Leads To More Corruption

When Republic Report launched Sell Out Of The Week, our initial winner was President Obama, who earned the prize for embracing his super PAC, essentially endorsing unlimited corporate cash invading the democratic process, after having failed to take some critical steps to clean up the system. We’ve chosen him again this week, but for a different money in politics offense.

Obama campaigned on a promise of reform and transparency, pledging as a candidate that lobbyists “will not run my White House… and will not drown out the voices of the American people.” But three years into his presidency, Obama’s lobby reform is broken. The rules once seen as revolutionary are counterproductive, meaningless, and frankly ridiculous.

This Is NOT What Democracy Looks Like! Criminalizing First Amendment Rights

If laws like the new Trespass Bill (HR 347) had been in effect during the Civil Rights movement, there would have been no March on Washington. Martin Luther King Jr. and his fellow activists would have been rendered criminals. And King's call for "militant nonviolent resistance" would have been silenced by police in riot gear.

Wall Street Whistleblowers Get the Silent Treatment From Washington

What’s worse: to be persecuted and indicted for trying to expose an act of wrongdoing -- or to be ignored for doing so? The Obama administration has set a record by accusing no fewer than six government employees, who allegedly leaked classified information to reporters, of violating the Espionage Act, a draconian law dating back to 1917. Yet when it comes to workers who have risked their careers to expose misconduct in the corporate and financial arena, the government has often left whistleblowers feeling isolated and discouraged.

Revolution Roundup #2: As Mass rebellion Spreads Throughout Europe, Americans Dance With The StarsThe Global Insurrection Against Banker Occupation (GIABO) rages on…

Over the past few days the people of Ireland, Italy, Britain, Austria and Portugal have all held massive demonstrations against the Global Banking Cartel.

Ireland Vs. Global Banking Cartel…

More than 100,000 protest against Irish bailout

“More than 100,000 Irish citizens took to the streets of Dublin today to protest against the international bailout and four years of austerity.

Despite overnight snow storms and freezing temperatures, huge crowds have gathered in O’Connell Street to demonstrate against the cuts aimed at driving down Ireland’s colossal national debt.

So far the march has passed off peacefully although there is a huge Garda presence with up to 700 officers on duty working alongside 250 security guards for the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.

Among the marchers there is deep anger that most of the more than €80bn (£67bn) from the EU and the International Monetary Fund will be given to shore up Ireland’s ailing banks.” [Read More]

“The primary goal of the IMF-EU package to which any new government will be committed is not to stop Ireland spiralling downwards into economic depression. It is to ensure that Irish citizens cough up yet more money for the banks. The process of converting bank debt into national debt is to be completed.”

Revolution Roundup #2: As Mass rebellion Spreads Throughout Europe, Americans Dance With The StarsOur politicians won’t defend us and exercise the will of the people, so we must….

We are US soldiers, policemen, firemen, teachers, students, business owners, postal workers, transit workers, construction workers, union members, artists, journalists, doctors, nurses, lawyers, social service workers, factory workers, farmers, we are 99% of the population and we will not stand by and let our country be destroyed like this!

… all the propaganda and labels that are used to divide us will fall to the wayside. We are not just Republicans and Democrats, or Tea Party and Coffee Party people, we are Americans and we are uniting against our common enemy. [Read More]

The Two-Party Oligarchy Vs. The People

Our current economic crisis has proven that the Democrat versus Republican dynamic is obsolete, the only thing that matters now is us versus them. When I say “us,” I mean 99% of the US population. When I say “them,” I mean the ruling class. The ruling class includes Republicans, Democrats, and more importantly, the people and corporations who fund them. That is the dividing line. Adhere to it. Otherwise you are playing into their divide-and-conquer strategy, and you are complicit in our demise. [Read More]

“All men recognize the right of revolution; that is, the right to refuse allegiance to, and to resist, the government, when its tyranny or its inefficiency is great and unendurable. And oppression and robbery are organized, I say; let us not have such a machine any longer. I think that it is not too soon for honest men to rebel and revolutionize.”

    David,

I’d say the UK protests were more aimed at the Gvt austerity measures. I’m still not sure if the students truly get where the underlying cause stems from. They are angry that Gvt wants them in debt. Not angry at the banking oligarchy.

Rather than doing arts & humanities, if more students spent the time to actually study banking and the contradictions within they would come to similar conclusions as your goodself.

If you get the time to read it, here is a report that I recently submitted to the UK’s Commission on Banking, effectively de-bunking the current model of securitisation:

    http://forensicstatistician.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/icb-submission-nov-2010.pdf

I am a lay person with an interest in banking, and after only limited part time studying of the subject (including regular doses of Max Keiser!) can see the internal contradictions which they conveniently ignore!

  10. Never let it be said that Americans miss an opportunity to misrepresent reality with wanton hyperbole.

Sorry to disillusion you guys, but there is no “mass insurrection” or rebellion on this side of the pond – a few demonstrations does not a rebellion make. Lord knows the stark polarity of the US system of government, and the lack of any worthwhile choice offered by a system which offer voters only Option A, or Option B, but calls for “a second revolution” are worthy only satire.

And neither were any of these European marches/demo’s “against the global banking cartel…”: they were demonstrating against wide-ranging spending cuts and the resultant reduction in public sector jobs and services – so your conclusions are seen through the prism of parallax error.

Oh, and context might help, too – something sadly lacking in the piece above – I get completely that what passes for ‘news’ in the US wouldn’t pass muster in Europe (due largely to it being largely predicated on nothing more than mere ‘opinion’ and analysis-free content), and that you’re weighed-down parochialism and an overriding sense of ‘American Exceptionalism’, but knee-jerk responses are not what’s required here.

  11. Cathy said:

Americans will end up looking like fools and or “corporate serfs” as Ralph Nader says, if we don’t wake up! It seems Americans are more worried about shopping, Republicans (free market, less regulation) Democrats (socialism, amnesty, health care), or the so-called reality shows. I call them “brainwashing” shows.
Even when you try to warn people they look at you like you’re from ‘outer space’ or worse they say
what’s the use. That’s sad to say the least.
They just don’t get that both parties are responsible for where we are today. They don’t understand that EVERYTHING going on are DIFFERENT PIECES to the SAME PUZZLE. EVERYTHING IS RELEVANT.
I see too many young ones joining the military because they can’t find work or afford college. They will be fighting, not to protect us, but for corporate profits and executive pay.
To me college is a racket because the jobs aren’t there when they graduate.
Thanks for all the info & HOW DO WE GET U.S. CITIZENS TO DO WHAT EUROPEANS ARE DOING?

  12. Father Greg said:

My fellow Americans, the revolution starts now and it starts with quiet dissent and stealthy disassociation with the status quo. Like the patriots who started to revolt against their enslavers, we must hurt them where it counts, their wallets. Cut up your credit cards, close your accounts with big banks and move your assets to Credit Unions. Invest in land, gold and silver instead of the stock exchanges. Buy from local retailers and small family owned businesses. They have enslaved us with their plastic and interest rates. BREAK THE CHAINS AT ALL COST!

To the people who claim these protests weren’t against the Global bankers: YOU ARE 100% WRONG!

Just look at the videos and pictures from the protests. They all had anti-IMF and anti-Banker signs. Everyone knows that the cuts / austerity measures are a result of the bankers’ looting of their economies.

If anyone tells you that these protests were not against the global bankers, they are either lying or they are uninformed.

  15. We have to leave the main stream media behind. They serve and lie. Organizing parallel institutions rather than relying on the WalMarted Government could be studied. Eating real food instead of gen food, salt, Steroid meat and corn syrup will help people relearn to think, plan and recapture control of their own lives.
Self, health, knowledge, cooperation, love, desire are not commodities. Freedom is a lifetime work. Start your revolution today tomorrow is an adventure.

Government loves it when their enemies (citizens) organize into groups . From girl scouts to hard core militias. As they have either someone inside the group or to threaten some stooge inside the group. Take a lesson from our founders. Leaderless Resistance. We all know what needs to be done and acting on that alone or in small groups of trusted friends worked great once before. It is what tyrants fear the most as they can’t fight it. It might be a good idea for the millions of sheeple in this nation to take 5 and read the Constitution for once in their life. It might give them a clue as to how both parties show to it nothing but contempt. It also may end their being part of the problem.
