In #NY, a federal judge has ruled #NDAA detention is unconstitutional and that the #NY stop-and-frisk practice is illegal. In #CA, #SantaCruz, a ruling just came out from a court asserting the ability of journalists to document occupations, dismissing felony charges filed by a DA against journalists who were documenting an #OccupySantaCruz occupation of a bank building. Additionally, it has been revealed that the Department of Defense is trying to pass something similar to #CISPA via an administrative rule process, bypassing Congress, while Congress is still deliberating about #CISPA. Additionally, it has been revealed that @CenDemTech has been leading an effort, with signatures of @ACLU (National), @EFF, and more, to support S.2105 – a Senate version of #CISPA. Finally, the first anniversary of @Op_ESR Flag Day, 6/14 is coming up. More information will be posted here soon for your edification and reading enjoyment, in a way that will enable you to act on it.

there is just too much to say here. suffice it to say, a lot is going on. more to come.

News Discussion: 4 months, 1 week ago · View#OpESR #A99 AmpedStatus – #occupymonterey needs your help now! On January 3rd we were up in front of City Council of Monterey to argue the case that we should be allowed to continue our encampment. Prior to this Council meeting, we were given an extension, but only until the 20th, by City management. We are now actually permitted through that time. We have through further discussion with the City secured a place on the January 17 City Council agenda to (1) appeal the City management’s decision not to grant us the longer extension we originally sought, and (2) to formally propose to the City Council something that has so far only been agreed to in concept with City management – the idea of an occupation of a vacant or underused structure, with the help of the City Council, from which Occupy Monterey would provide services to the community. Please help at this time by reading this article _now_ and voting in favor of extending our Camp past January 20th in the online poll that accompanies the newspaper article — which Councilmembers will undoubtedly be reading! #OpESR #A99 HELP #OCCUPYMONTEREY CAMP – FACING EVICTION Well, for those of you who have done anything related to #occupy Camps, you know how interesting it can get. My local #occupy which I’ve been involved with, appears to be on the verge of eviction by the City of Monterey. I’ve helped in different capacities, food, medical, Legal Team, and have frequently been at Camp since the beginning. We have worked positively with the City since the beginning and don’t see a reason for eviction. As is often the case, there are political pressures causing it to occur. These are our most recent General Assembly minutes on the subject: http://twitter.com/pcvcolin/status/151820573578768386 This is my blog post (text copied to Indybay for readability) a bit lengthy but contains some recommendations on what I think people can do to help partway through the blog: http://twitter.com/pcvcolin/status/152110053988638720 If you want to help #occupymonterey please spread the word about this post.

Well, here is my latest drop. I have initiated a petition, for basically, a public takeover of SFBART. Anyone who is familiar with the Oscar Grant case, and other police abuses by SFBART, and more recently, the cell phone shutoff of August 11, followed by the SFBART adoption on December 1 of SFBART’s cell phone shutoff policy, understands how far away from listening to the public this transit agency has gone. Sadly, its behavior is becoming, in the words of SFBART itself, a ”pioneering model for our nation” as the Federal Communications Commission Chairman Genachowski has recently come out in support of SFBART and its policy. It is clear action needs to be taken. Please help spread the word about my petition which involves both #OWS / #Occupy and California State Assembly components. After you read it, I urge you to sign it (and not just ”share” it through your social network and move on). Thanks for your help.
