I gotta quit reading~! Scientists’ dire warning: GM salmon will breed with trout and permanently harm the ecosystem

    http://www.naturalnews.com/040725_GM_salmon_AquAdvantage_genetic_experiments.html

Remember all those industry claims that genetically-modified (GM) AquAdvantage salmon would not be harmful to the environment in any way, and would not breed with other fish because it is inherently sterile? These are both lies, according to a new study out of Canada, which found that ”Frankensalmon” is fully capable of breeding with other salmon, as well as other fish species such as trout. This same study also found that the resulting hybrid fish can persist in the wild, permanently damaging entire ecosystems.

THIS story is HEARTBREAKING! The fact that our female veterans our being treated THIS way is a TRAVESTY!

you are right alison it is a travesty that these young ladies have to go through that as well as the men , for women it is harder and especially with children, but the bigger travesty is being sent to fight an unjust war that benefits no one but the big banks, big pharma ,big oil, military, corporation complex, just so that you can have a career or a job which is why so many of these young kids get in the military to begin with. as far as helping others it is a great thing to do and if enough people would help one another there would be no hunger and misery because of being poor and destitute. i wish i could do more than just type a bunch of words to help people, got me thinking though. good article and glad some of those women are getting help.

Gotta LOVE those govt contractors! We are PAYING for THEIR MAN CAVES!

    http://situationroom.blogs.cnn.com/2013/06/06/epa-warehouse-contractors-dodged-security-cams-built-man-caves

Contractors at an Environmental Protection Agency warehouse were careless with inventories, and used government furniture and appliances to create hidden “man caves” complete with couches and TVs, an agency watchdog alleges.

Out of sight of the security cameras, and often hidden behind screens or boxes, employees created rec-rooms with furniture and appliances from government storage, according to an audit, feathering their nests with televisions, DVDs, refrigerators, microwaves, and couches.

Perhaps the most elaborate part of the setup was an extensive gym, with weights and equipment to rival a fitness center. Using floor tiles from storage, they carpeted the area, and they used notebooks from storage to record their workouts, according to the EPA inspector general’s report.

SO MANY QUESTIONS, so FEW ANSWERS
      1) HOW LONG have we been paying this contractor and at WHAT cost?
      2) How MANY OTHER agencies have the same issues?
      3) WHY did it take THIS long to figure it out?

I could go on but I am sure you have your own.

Reminds me of the movie ”Enemy of The State” when Regina King asked” Who’s watching the watchers?”

WHERE ARE THESE MEN FROM? Are they NOT living in 2013???? And THEY represent US????????????

It’s not often that a U.S. Senator will try to top Todd Akin’s ignorant comments, but it just happened.

GOP Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) blamed the ”hormonal level created by nature” for rapes in the military and said that all pregnant servicewomen should be investigated.

    WTF?

    • Avatar Image
Ed Diver · 1 week, 5 days ago

The ’created by nature’ comment is a great example of IQ tests not being a part of politics, as for what he was actually trying to convey.. the military spends a lot of time and money training normal off the street people to look someone in the eye and shoot them, I know this first hand. From there, rape falls into the ’collateral damage’ category, a lesser sin so to speak, particularly in a conflict. The idea that pregnant service women (a very small number of women) should be consulted to check they are not victims of this crime makes sense to me, I know the culture and do not recommend service for women, for the above reasons for a start.

ed my dad was a marine as was alison’s and he told me women should not be allowed in the military for the same reasons. he also told me war turns men into human animals. i was telling him about how the soldiers were treated when they came back from nam and called baby killers and things like that because he had blocked out the vietnam war he looked me dead in the eyes with a piercing glare and said ”shit you think WE did not do that we had to” those children were carrying grenades and would kill the people he was in with.women were only allowed in the services in a limited capacity back then and the women on the islands in the pacific were fair game his words not mine. the greatest respect i have ever had for a person was for him he went from saipan to okinawa in the second marine division during ww2 and was as calm and pleasant a person you will ever meet, for him to go through that kind of hell and still keep his humanity and sanity was impressive.the saddest part was when he found out he had been used to fight the rich mens war. thanks to you both alison and ed.

      • Avatar Image
        Alison · 1 week, 5 days ago

Interesting term ”collateral damage” – ”Boston Marathon bombing victims were collateral damage in a strike meant as payback for U.S. wars in Muslim lands, the surviving suspect (SUPPOSEDLY) wrote in a message scribbled on the boat where he was found hiding, a law enforcement source told CNN Thursday.” http://bit.ly/12DBN2l

As Michael mentioned, I was raised by a Marine who taught me that HONOR was the MOST important virtue. However, I do agree that women do not belong in combat situations due to the fact that rape can be a ”tool” of combat. That being said, I have often thought that a unit of women, serving together (menstrual cycles tend to correspond) with weapons could be a serious asset, in the RIGHT situation. Should my family ever be threatened, I guarantee that I would be the first to defend them with whatever tools I had available, UNTIL my dying breath.

I also understand that having an aircraft carrier (eq.)full of young men, far away from home for months at a time may NOT be the best place for women. However, IF attitudes about respect for EVERYONE were changed, I think that women and men COULD serve side by side.

While typically in US history women have served in ”support” roles, more than 400 women disguised themselves as men and fought in the Union and Confederate armies during the Civil War. http://bit.ly/kx0vy7

I will also add that I DO believe ”ALL is FAIR in War”.

What BOTHERS me about the current issue is that in many cases, the women that were raped, were raped by their commanding officers or were to report the rapes to their commanding officers, who in turn kept it quiet or punished the women. http://bit.ly/12rD3dO

Commanding Officers SHOULD be held responsible – They SHOULD protect ALL of those under their command REGARDLESS of whether or not they are women. The attitude of hiding the TRUTH about rape IS NOT ACCEPTABLE in the command hierarchy!

And I guess I simply do not understand the mindset that rape is ever OK. Having 2 sons, from what I have seen there are PLENTY of beautiful girls that are more than willing to have sex. (I will save that discussion for another day)

As is evident in India and South Africa, the bigger issue is the mindset of some men and cultures that women are objects to be used and or abused. So we have to change several things before this will end. War mongering is ANOTHER of these issues. I could go on for days about THAT topic but will end here.

        Thanks to all for insights!

’Lawmakers demand crackdown on sex assault in military’
WASHINGTON – ”The uniformed chiefs of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, flanked by dozens of junior officers, jammed into a Senate hearing room Tuesday to field hours of uncomfortable, sometimes withering questions from lawmakers about an epidemic of sexual assaults.

Senators from both parties made clear they were fed up with years of sex-crime scandals despite repeated declarations from military leaders of ”zero tolerance” for sexual abuse. Drawing a wide arc from the Navy’s Tailhook disaster in 1991, when aviators assaulted 90 people during a convention gone wild, to more recent embarrassments such as last month’s arrest of the Air Force’s top sexual-assault prevention officer on charges of sexual battery, legislators pressed all the brass arrayed before them to finally crack down.

”It’s almost intolerable that we can continue on this current path,” said Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W. Va.)…”

I have to add one more thing. I have been in a corporate environment for the past 30 something years. Out of all the men that served as my supervisor, there were very FEW that actually did NOT try to use their power and influence to ”get into my pants”. I quit several good jobs for that very reason.

So THANK GOODNESS sexual harassment is becoming less acceptable. We still have further to go, obviously.

that is true alison ALL WOMEN should be treated WITH RESPECT and i have not one shred of respect for a man who will use position, drugs, or money to get in a woman,s pants none what so ever and i have seen a few that had done it and told them what i thought of it. speaking of honor my dad told me after the war was over there was a sergeant that was mistreating a pow (japanese) and he told him to stop and the guy told him that they did it to our guys and my dad said we are not them well the guy kept mistreating the prisoner and my dad pulled his rifle and drew bead on him and said if i see you do it again i will shoot you and he meant it and told him again we are not them. he was almost court marshaled over the event but was standing up for his and our county’s honor when he did that, this was on tinian where he was at when they bombed hiroshima and nagasaki.

Pentagon Tells Congress: Stop Giving Us What We Don’t Need

    http://www.pogo.org/blog/2013/05/pentagon-tells-congress-stop-giving-us-what-we-dont-need.html

In recent years, Congress has denied a number of our proposals, including the elimination of lower-priority weapons programs (i.e., Global Hawk Block 30) and elimination of lower-priority military force structure (including Navy ships and Air Force aircraft).

Congress has also rejected some of our proposals to slow the growth in military compensation and benefit costs, including certain proposed increases in fees and co-pays for military retiree health care. Congress has also so far rejected our efforts to pursue consolidation of our infrastructure, which will lead to large long-term savings.

We hope that, in view of the serious fiscal problems facing the Department of Defense and our nation, Congress will allow us to implement these and other important efficiencies.
